About Chalet Joubarbe ...
With spectacular views overlooking the pistes and the mighty summits around, you won't find a better base for your Alpine holiday, whatever the time of year. you choose to visit
Once you are here, just park up the car and forget it! Chalet Joubarbe is on the edge of the village of Chinaillon (300m), so it's just a short stroll to fetch fresh bread from the boulangerie in the morning or for a tasty local meal in the evening. Le Grand Bornand / Chinaillon resort has a Famille Plus rating, which means there is always something going on to keep the kids busy.
The chalet itself has been extensively renovated, so you'll have all the comforts of home in this stunning setting, and the owners have an office nearby, so are always available to answer any questions.
Our partner shop Rêves d'Hiver can deliver your skis to the chalet, come to the property to help you choose your equipment or even pick you up and drive you to their shop to benefit from their professional advise. Discounts and free ski store available.
The property ...
The large light-filled living area on the first floor of Chalet Joubarbe makes the most of the fabulous views, and opens on to a large sunny terrace so you can get even closer to the mountains.
There’s room for more than one chef in the well-equipped kitchen, so you can share the cooking before all sitting down to eat at the huge dining table. After dinner, retire to the cosy leather sofas where you can watch a film on the big screen TV complete with surround sound or enjoy the night sky from the furnished terrace.
If you'd rather, you could play a game of table football or read on the mezzanine, or just plan the next day in the beautiful Aravis region around the fire.
With five bedrooms and three bathrooms set over three floors, there’s plenty of room for up to 13 people - and possibly two other guests if needed! There are two double bedrooms and a twin room on the first floor, where you will also find a shower room and a utility room. On the top floor, one room has a double bed, a single bed and a pair of bunk beds while the other has three single beds. There's also a shower room on this floor as well as the games room.
About the area ...
It’s just a 700m walk from Chalet Joubarbe to the ski lift, but if you’d rather save your energy for the slopes, the ski bus stops at the end of the drive every 15 minutes.
With your Aravis ski pass, you’ve got all the Lake Annecy ski resorts at your disposal - more than 200km of perfect pistes. Even closer is a great sledge run and the start of the cross-country ski piste. Beginners in this sport will love the nearby Evo Nordic Park, which has a circuit featuring a variety of terrains, while boarders will appreciate the Snowpark.
Non-skiers can go ice-skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
At the end of a busy day, head back to your cosy chalet, hang up wet clothes in the drying room ready for another day, and relax in the sauna.
In the summer, children will enjoy playing in the play park with swings, a climbing wall, slides etc which is shared with children staying at three chalets owned by the same owners. A network of walking and biking trails cover the mountains around Chalet Joubarbe, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office in Chinaillon.
No doubt you'll manage to get close to local mountain goats and groundhogs around the nearby Colombière pass! There’s a fantastic swimming pool complex in Le Grand Bornand, with a restaurant and grassy areas for picnics.
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
The medieval town of Annecy is a must for a day out, whatever the season. It offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, and Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for watersports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
August sees the International Children’s Festival in Le Grand Bornand - a week of puppet shows, circus acts and workshops, with a grand firework finale. You’re in the heart of Reblochon country, so on your travels don’t forget to pick up some of this delicious cheese from a local farm or market!
If you would like to explore the Aravis mountains and villages in summer or winter, Chalet Joubarbe is a great choice. Check our calendar to see when the chalet is free - we can hold your dates for 24 hours if you need a little more time to make plans. But don't hang around - this is a very popular chalet with our guests.

From the Owner
Chalet Joubarbe was in fact the old family home where we both grew up.
Our parents have been welcoming paying guests since 1965 to " Les Congères" [the Snowdrift] , the nearby property which our father built himself, so my sister and I are well acquainted with looking after guests: it's a family tradition!
The property was named Snowdrift because of the vast amounts of snow which used to surround the isolated farms and buildings which were in Chinaillon at that time. We took over the family business a couple of years ago with the idea of upgrading the accommodation on offer and this is what we feel we have achieved.
Chalet Joubarbe was in fact the old family home where we both grew up. We have completely refurnished it and hope that you will really enjoy spending your holiday in the spacious and airy living room which has superb views out onto the pistes.
You can park the car in the parking for your entire holiday, as shops, walking trails and the pistes are just a short walk from the chalet. Also we are close at hand should you have any problems or enquiries... We look forward to welcoming you.
Patrice and Muriel
Why Le Grand Bornand?
Le Grand Bornand is an idyllic Alpine village which happens to be surrounded by some great skiing and in summer, a superb mountain playground. There are none of the huge hotel complexes you'll find in other ski resorts – just a friendly welcome all year round. Families are particularly welcome, with a great programme of activities to keep kids of all ages busy and happy.
“Fantastic times! Excellent welcome!”
We had really exceptional weather. The chalet is comfortable, with a good use of space (there were 13 of us without any problems) and excellent bed linen. Many thanks for the welcome basket, which we all appreciated. We knew the area well in the snow, it is very different and very beautiful as nature reawakens! Lots of walks.

“It lived up to the description...”
A magnificent comfortable chalet which lived up to the description. It satisfied all the variousl and complex demands of our group of 15 people (family, friends and children). In addition, there's a warm welcome and good advice from Patrice. We are hoping to return in winter and in summer (it's easy to imagine how beautiful the countryside will be) and it's a holiday I recommend without hesitation.
Régine A. - 26/03/2016

Thank you for the welcome gift. Our whole family loved staying in your chalet. There is space, comfort and the property is beautifully decorated. The sauna and the fireplace were very welcome after a day's skiing. The lifts are just a few steps away and the village shops are really close.

“A superb area, with activities for the whole family.”
An excellent holiday, despite changeable weather. The chalet was clean, comfortable,
spacious with fun features that kept the whole family busy when the weather was dull. Plenty of things to do out of doors, and magnificent views.
Guy J. - 02/08/2014
“Such a beautiful spot”
The chalet is very comfy, ideally located, a stone's throw from the slopes and the great ski area of Le Grand-Bornand. We had a really pleasant stay.
Stéphanie L. - 22/03/2014
A big thank you for your kind and warm welcome, and for the little picnic left on the table for our arrival!
We spent an great fortnight this January in your comfortable family chalet, refurbished in a very modern way but with the mountain touch we love so much. It's very spacious, and the entrance room where you can leave all your outdoor equipment is a great idea.
Friends, kids, ourselves... we all agree to say that we loved it here. A pure moment of bliss. We know the area as we live near Annecy, but what a pleasure to wake up right in front of the pistes! Being so close to the village and shops was really convenient for those of us who didn't ski, and despite a moody weather we could enjoy the surrounding during our dream holiday.
Once again: big thanks to Patrice and Muriel (as well as Muriel's husband) for your kindness and availability every time we needed. We'll be very happy to come by and say hi once in a while.
Christian M. - 11/01/2014
“What a place to spend our holiday!”
Summer in the mountain is like anywhere else, and your fields are magnificent. The whole family enjoyed the Youth Festival "Au Bonheur des Mômes".
Myriam Z. - 24/08/2013
“Thanks for your warm welcome at chalet Joubarbe”
The delicious welcome basket was highly appreciated and we ate it all in the blink of an eye! We had a really good time in the Aravis with the sun, the mountains, the cheese, the cows and all the outdoor activities the area has to offer. This is a splendid place to get the family together and have some good time.

“Unforgettable family holiday”
The chalet is very comfortable and very well equipped. Regarding skiing possibilities, the free skibus stops just outside the chalet and takes you to the pistes in a few minutes. Shops are only a few hundred meters away, and locals are very welcoming!
Katia B. - 09/03/2013
“Lovely chalet and friendly resort”
We stayed in Chalet Joubarbe with our family during the half term holidays 2013. The chalet is lovely, has been modernised with thought, resulting in a light and bright chalet with plenty of space for up to 13 people. Patrice was on hand to help with anything we needed. The chalet is well located near the village, we loved the down to earth and friendly resort and would happily return.
Darren K. - 02/03/2013
“We warmly recommend this place!”
A fantastic stay in this beautifully renovated chalet. Really ideal for a big family like ours! The owners were extremely welcoming. The village is lovely and the supermarket as well as bakery are just a short walk away.
Family R. - 09/02/2013
“Such a beautiful place...”
The owners were very welcoming and the chalet is very well equipped with good quality beds which is a must! Exceptional view over the ski slopes... My advise to all: don't hesitate to book it!
Véronique M. - 26/01/2013
“No need for a car!”
This chalet is an absolute delight, ideally located to enjoy a skiing holiday. We would leave in the morning wearing our normal shoes, take the ski bus 100m away that would drop us off just outside the sports shop where our ski boots had been safely kept for us. Going back to the chalet was as easy as going to the pistes. We didn't touch the car during the whole week! We got a warm welcome from the owners and the welcome presents turned out to be the first stage of an excellent holiday in the Alps. Thanks again for everything. We'll be back!
Alain B. - 19/01/2013
“The best holiday in my life”
We stayed at Chalet Joubarbe from the 4th of August until the 11th of August. I didn't know you, but I knew your sister (very kind). I spent the best holidays in all my life in "Le Chinaillon", so thanks a lot for everything.I hope I'll be able to come there again.
Fantastic view, people and services eveywhere, I work with tourism in Spain and I just have to say that your services and customer attention are excellent. I will recommend your area to all my friends.

“Spacious and comfortable”
The whole family loved this great chalet nestled in the heart of Aravis country. The place is really vast and comfy, with good beds, very clean, and right by the ski slopes. The villages around are so typical that we came back home with thousands of photos!
